Florencia Enghel, from Argentina, obtained her Ph.D. in Media and Communication Studies from Karlstad University in Sweden in 2014. Her doctoral thesis, which analyzes the characteristics and consequences of post-conflict international development communication intervention in the successor states to the former Yugoslavia, received the 2015 Dissertation Award granted by the Swedish Association for Media and Communication Research. Since 2005 she has been a regular guest lecturer and thesis supervisor at Malmö University’s Master’s program in Communication for Development in Sweden, and the editor of Glocal Times. Since 2010 she serves as Vice-Chair of the Participatory Communication Research Section of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR. In 2012 she co-edited the special issue of Nordicom Review “Communication, Media and Development: Problems and Perspectives” with Prof. Karin Wilkins (University of Texas at Austin, US). She has been awarded research scholarships from the Helge Ax:son Johnsons and Wahlgrenska foundations (in 2012 and 2014 respectively). She is interested in questions regarding the role, ethics and political economy of communication in processes of social change, with an eye to the production of civic presence and justice.
