DKK 5 million for research on “Media, Empowerment and Democracy in East Africa”

Danida, the Danish development assistance agency, has granted DKK 5 million (EUR 0.7 million) to research project to be hosted by Ørecomm, “Media, Empowerment and Democracy in East Africa” (MEDIeA).

The project will run for 4 years from 1 January 2009. From Denmark it involves Ørecomm director professor Thomas Tufte and associate professor Norbert Wildermuth from SDU, University of Southern Denmark. Two of their colleagues from Kenya and Tanzania will also be participating in MEDIeA, as will the Kenyan and Tanzanian recipients of two ph.d. scholarships.

As the project is hosted by Ørecomm the grant is expected also to generate activities here.
