Spanish edition of anthology published
The Spanish language anthology ’Communicación para el Cambio Social – Lecturas historicas y contemporaneas’ (Communication for Social Change – historical and contemporary readings) was published in Mexico City on 10 October. The book was edited by professor Thomas Tufte, Roskilde University, and his Bolivian colleague Alfonso Gumucio-Dagron, director of the Communication for Social Change Consortium. It is a large volume, 1414 pages with 200 contributions by 150 authors.
Communication for Social Change is defined as the use of communication as process and tool for dialogue in the articulation of social and structural processes of change.
The publication aims to create a full presentation of texts that have contributed to the conceptual development of this research field, since the 1930’s and until the present debate in this fiels. Thus the anthology includes excerpts of Brecht’s theory on radio (1932) and articles from the recent debate by Arturo Escobar, Manuel Castells, Arjun Appadurai, Karin Wilkins, Dallas Smythe, Brenda Dervin, Ignacio Ramonet, Rosa Maria Alfaro, Everett Rogers, Armand Mattelart, Jesus Martin-Barbero and many others.
The book was first published in English and published in the USA in 2006, and now in Spanish in Latin America. Thomas Tufte participated in the recent 9th Congress for Latin American Media Research (ALAIC) in Mexico City, where this edition was launched. During the next six months the book will be launched also in other Latin American cities.
