Ørecomm at IAMCR, Istanbul
Ørecomm participants at the IAMCR conference 13-17 July 2011 include Florencia Enghel, Nanna Engebretsen, Anna Glasser, Oscar Hemer, Norbert Wildermuth and Thomas Tufte, in addition to two members of the advisory board member to MEDIeA: Karin Wilkins and Jo Tacchi. Our recent Ørecomm guest, Debra Vidali will also be attending as will colleagues from a variety of our partners, for example Jair Vega from Universidad del Norte, Colombia. Amongst the activities they will be involved in are:
Presenting papers in working groups and sections, e.g. Norbert Wildermuth in a panel on communication for social change, and Thomas Tufte presents his paper ‘Ethnographies of ‘Youth’ Agency in Communication for Development Initiatives’ in the Audience Section, and several more. Anna Glasser is presenting findings from her MA thesis on a panel of the Emerging Scholars Network.
Florencia Engel is vice-chairing the section on participatory communication research (as usual with many papers).
Thomas Tufte is a member of the IAMCR International Council, attending the IC Council meeting on 13 July where general issues of IAMCR are discussed, but including thematic debates around IAMCR and climate change, language policy issues in the organisation, global media policy, and IAMCR publication strategies.
Jair Vega and Thomas Tufte will be launching and promoting their new book Trazos de una otra comunicación en América Latina. Prácticas comunitárias, teorías y demandas sociales (see separate note).
