Seminar: The Arab Uprising:
The End of Authoritarianism?

by Ørecomm on 2011 September 21 14:49

What are the social forces behind the dramatic changes in the Arab world? Are they led by a new generation of well-educated youth? Are the uprisings the result of the expansion of new forms of communication on the internet, such as Twitter? Are we witnessing a new era of a strong civil society and popular involvement in the ruling of the Arab countries? These and other questions will be addressed by a panel including:

  • Paul Salem (Director, Carnegie Middle East Center, Beirut)
  • Jørgen Bæk Simonsen (Professor, University of Copenhagen)
  • Torben Due (Executive Director, UN World Food Program, Rome)

The seminar takes place at Roskilde University (building 25), Thursday 13 October, 13-17 hrs. See programme here. Participation is free, but you should register by email to: brobeck@ruc.dk
