The first conference of the new REAL_CODE network is being held 28 November to 2 December 2011, in Santiago de Compostela. Ørecomm co-director Oscar Hemer participates in this inaugural week of research cooperation with Portuguese-Spanish language researchers in Europe and Latin America.

REAL_CODE is the acronym for La Red Europa América Latina de Comunicación y Desarrollo [Europe-Latin America Network for Communication and Development]. Members are research groups and universities from Latin American countries and in Europe mainly from Spain and Portugal. And Ørecomm, with several Spanish and Portuguese speaking participants.

Initial REAL_CODE funding comes from EU (FEDER), and universities in Galicia, Spain.

The objectives of REAL_CODE are to broaden the theoretical discussion of the communication for development field, to define and promote common research themes for groups of European and Latin American researchers, and to facilitate knowledge exchange between researchers and society on an equalitarian basis. These objectives and a number of preliminary research strands will be discussed during the assembly in Santiago de Compostela.
