Call: IFIP WG 9.4: Social Implications of Computers in Developing Countries
The International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) invites to the 12th International Conference on Social Implications of Computers in Developing Countries. The conference will be held on 19-22 May 2013, in Jamaica. The Working Group 9.4 of IFIP gathers scholars and practitioners that deal with the issue on how ICT affects social development. WG participants seek to problematize the past, present and the future of ICT4D. Confirmed keynote speakers are professors Saskia Sassen (Columbia University, New York) and Sundeep Sahay (University of Oslo).
In order to organize the discussion at the Jamaica conference, 16 different tracks have been proposed, e.g.:
- Caring for a Connected Humanity: eHealth, and the Transformation of Healthcare in the Global South
- How ICT Frame Development Goals
- Infusing Gender into ICT4D: Innovating Research, Practice and Policy
- Open & Inclusive Development
- Sen’s Capability Approach and ICT4D
- Social Media and Development
- Understanding the Actors: Actor-Network Theory in ICT for Development Research
