Public lecture: Appadurai: Dreamscape
Professor Arjun Appadurai (Department of Media, Culture, and Communication, New York University) will give a public lecture:
Mumbai as Dreamscape:
Economy, Media, Property
on 28 February 2013, at 2 PM, in Asia House, Indiakaj 16 (!), 2100 Copenhagen.
The concept of dreamscape appears as if in prolongation of other ‘scapes’ (ethnoscapes, mediascapes, technoscapes, …) in Appadurai’s groundbreaking work Modernity at Large: The Cultural Dimensions of Globalization (1996).
The review in American Journal of Sociology said: “This is a collection of sole-authored essays revolving around questions concerning the end of the nation-state, diaspora, new modernity, deterritorialization, the concept of culture, postcolonialism, the production of locality, flows, and ‘scapes’ and the work of the imagination. The author is a prominent advocate both for a new postnational discourse and an anthropology that captures the qualities of translocal culture.”
