Refugee migration, media & communication: Post Doctorate opened

Refugee crisis in Europe has developed  a new segment of communication for development and crisis communication. To what extent is it efficient? What is innovative in media handling refugee migration? Researchers in the field are welcome to apply for a 2-year post doctorate at Malmö University.

 

Malmö University has from an early stage been engaged in raising awareness and disseminating knowledge about refugee migration through the project Malmö University for refugees. Now it takes a further initiative to offer 5 post doctorate positions for duration of 2 years.

The post doctoral researcher in Refugee Migration, Media & Communication will be placed at the School of Arts and Communication (K3) and coordinated by MIM ( Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare). Program will consist of 80% research and 20% teaching in relevant subjects (both at undergraduate and graduate levels). In addition, a part of the post doctorate is a regular participation in a joint seminar on refugee migration at MIM.

Who can apply?

 Candidates for this position must have a PhD degree in a relevant subject. They should possess international interdisciplinary experience (participation in conferences, publications, collaborations) and documented ability to work in an English-speaking research environment. Also, ability to engage and inform society about research and integrate both theoretical and practical dimensions is strongly encouraged.

Only proposals that lie within the frame of research on New Media (collaborative media, communication for development, social entrepreneurship, activism) will be considered. Possible approaches include media ethnography, visual and digital storytelling, action research, and design-based or artistic research.
