Ørecomm Festival 2011: Practical information

The Örecomm Festival is free of charge, however all participants need to register. If you will not participate despite your previous registration, we strongly encourage you to notify the Festival committee at orecomm@gmail.com

Participants themselves arrange their own travel and accommodation. Below, we give some recommendations regarding these practical aspects.

The Örecomm Festival does not provide economic support for participants. We sincerely hope that participants from many countries of the world will take part and encourage you to apply for funding from other sources.

Malmö

Malmö University is located in the centre of Malmö in an area of transformation of Malmö from an industrial town to a centre of learning. Malmö is located in southern Sweden, close to Copenhagen in Denmark. The university is structured to cope with our ever-changing  job market through a multi-disciplinary approach that crosses traditional school and faculty boundaries. Malmö University offers more than 90 separate education programmes at bachelor and master’s level and 500 courses. Around 20 programmes and 90 courses are in English, attracting almost 2000 international students. In total, we have 25 000 full or part-time students.

While in Malmö the Örecomm Festival is hosted by the master’s programme in Communication for Development at the School of Arts and Communication at the Faculty for Culture and Society.

Map of Malmö University: The Festival will take place in building number 4 of the map. Fabriken, for the Sunday programme, is right across the street to the west of building number 4.

Copenhagen

The conference on 12 September will take place in the center of Copenhagen. Located in Alexandersalen at Bispetorvet 1-3 near Vor Frue Plads, 1167 Copenhagen K (building number 701). See this map of the Copenhagen city campus. Bispetorvet (highlighted) is in the middle square of the bottom row.

Roskilde

Roskilde University is geographically located about 30 minutes by train outside Copenhagen and yet not in the city of Roskilde, on what back in the days (opened in 1972) used to be nothing but fields. The university is research-driven and provides education for future generations of managers, teachers and experts based on advanced knowledge. The most important task of Roskilde University is to contribute to experimental, innovative forms of learning and knowledge creation. For more details on Roskilde University, check here.

While in Roskilde the Festival is hosted by the Department of Communication, Business and Information Technologies (CBIT). CBIT is an innovative and interdisciplinary university environment that combines science, the social sciences and humanities in the study of the interplay between communication, business and information technology in theory and in practice. The conference on 13 September is being held at the cinema (it says ‘biograf’ on the map) in building 41. Please see the map of Roskilde University.

Roskilde University is not located in the city of Roskilde as one might think, but near the railway station called Trekroner. Therefore you need to take the train from Copenhagen Central Station to Trekroner. On 13 September we will meet at Copenhagen Central Station at 8 am and then walk together from Trekroner Station to Roskilde University.

Accommodation

We recommend staying in Malmö 9-12 September, and staying over in Copenhagen the night 12-13 September.

Travel

Malmö is located only 20 min train ride from Copenhagen airport Kastrup, so if travelling by air, you can easily arrange both your arrival and departure for Copenhagen airport.

On 12 September, Festival participants are invited to go together as a group to Copenhagen. We will meet at Malmö Central Station at 8.00 am.

Similarly, we will meet at 8.00 am at the Copenhagen Central Station on 13 September to go together to Roskilde.

Meals during the Festival

As a participant at the Festival, you are invited for the barbecue on Sunday night at Fabriken. We also provide coffee during coffee breaks. During week days, university restaurants as well as restaurants and grocery stores nearby are open. However, we offer to pre-order lunch buffet for you, at your own cost of 75 SEK, for Saturday and Sunday.
