Colombia: Master’s degree courses boom

by Ørecomm on 2012 June 1 12:43

In Colombia, as in many Latin American countries, there is a rapidly increasing number of master’s courses in communication on offer. Typically, these courses will be organised with intensive weekend presence seminars and lectures, combined with lowkey online supervision of individual work. Ørecomm has close contact to the programme at Universidad del Norte (Barranquilla), where Ørecomm co-director Thomas Tufte is a frequent visiting professor.

In this growing educational market some universities have decided to give their master’s a “communication for development” profile. This is the case at the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (Cali), where an option is “communication, development and ICT”. The newest C4D offer comes from Colombia’s oldest “cloister university”, Universidad Santo Tomás (Bogotá), founded in 1580, with its master of “communication, development and social change”.
